It is surprising to me that iOS/macOS doesn't allow you to customize your search engine - they just provide a list of defaults that doesn't include Kagi. I can't imagine this is a nefarious thing and probably is the way it is because in Chrome, any website can install itself as a search engine and, at least based on my parents' activities, just straight up change your search engine without making it clear. That is bad, but I think Apple is overcorrecting.
